Brighton Regency Synagogue is a former synagogue in Brighton noted for the elegance of its Regency style architecture. It is has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building .1The synagogue was designed by England's first Jewish architect, David Mocatta , and erected between 1836 and 1838 at 38–39 Devonshire Place in Brighton. The building's chaste, pilastered facade, symmetry, and central doorway are typical of the Regency style. A faded inscription reading "JEWS SYNAGOGUE 5598" (1838) was faintly visible under the pediment in 2006. Inside, the original ceiling lantern, a typical Regency feature, is still in place. The building was replaced by the Middle Street Synagogue in 1875, and sold. By 2007 it had been converted for use as an apartment building, with the facade sensitively restored and an historic marker mentioning the architect fixed on the facade.2 National Heritage List for England .
