Adam Czerniaków (30 November 1880 – 23 July 1942) was a Polish engineer and senator who was head of the Warsaw Ghetto Jewish Council (Judenrat) during World War II. He committed suicide on 23 July 1942 by swallowing a cyanide pill, a day after the commencement of mass extermination of Jews known as the Grossaktion Warsaw.

The head of the Warsaw Ghetto Jewish Council, or Judenrat, during World War II, who died by suicide in 1942. The 2005 opening stated "Failure to comply would result in immediate execution of some one hundred hostages, including employees of the Judenrat and Czerniakow's own wife." The word survives once in the article today but is gone from the opening, which now states only that he died by suicide a day after the Grossaktion Warsaw began. A reader today learns when he died, and not that German authorities threatened to execute a hundred hostages, including his wife, to force his compliance.
