The verdict was reached in the street and in the feed long before any tribunal sat. Most of the crowd cannot translate what it is shouting. Some of them can. Here is what the slogans mean, who wrote them, who organizes the marches, how the reach is manufactured, and the names of the people already dead because of it.
Every other page on this site answers the record: the treaties, the courts, the intelligence findings, the documents. This page answers the crowd. Because the crowd is where most people actually meet this conflict, and the crowd does not cite anything.
Nothing below is inference about what anyone secretly believes. Every line is a published document, an official emblem, a court filing, or a measured dataset. Where a claim rests on one organization's own words, we quote the organization.
The defence of every one of these is the same: you're misreading it, it just means freedom. So read it in the original language, and remember the century it came from. The crowd chanting in English and the crowd chanting in Arabic are not saying the same thing, and the people who wrote the words knew which crowd was which.
A historical reference. Heritage. Nothing to do with Jews alive today.
“Khaybar, Khaybar, O Jews, the army of Muhammad will return.” Khaybar was an oasis north of Medina with an established Jewish population. The ADL records that Muhammad's forces moved against it in the seventh century, and that the episode ended in the subjugation, expulsion or slaughter of its Jews.
It does not name Israel. It does not name Zionists. It names Jews, and it promises the thing that happened to them at Khaybar is coming back. That is not a reading imposed by critics: it is the sentence. In Britain, two men were charged with stirring up racial hatred over the chant at a London protest.
Freedom and equal rights for Palestinians living under occupation.
The river is the Jordan. The sea is the Mediterranean. Between them lie Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. The slogan does not mean a Palestinian state next to Israel. It means one state covering all three, in place of Israel.
The dates prove it. The PLO was chanting it in the mid-1960s, before the 1967 war, when Israel held neither the West Bank nor Gaza. Jordan and Egypt did. There was no occupation to protest. The only thing between the river and the sea to object to was Israel itself.
Spread the uprising. Solidarity everywhere. Intifada just means “shaking off.”
Ask what that intifada actually did. The Second Intifada killed over 1,000 Israelis, most of them civilians, by suicide bombing: a Passover seder in Netanya, a pizzeria in Jerusalem, a student cafeteria, city buses at rush hour.
“Globalize” is the key word. It asks for that method to be used wherever the speaker lives. It is the only slogan on this page that spells out its own plan of action, and in three countries, someone has carried it out. The names are below.
They call it rhetoric aimed at governments, not people: regional politics, anti-imperialism, not antisemitism.
This is the sarkha, the official slogan of the Houthi movement, and it is not shouted at a rally. It is printed on their banner: “God is great, death to America, death to Israel, a curse upon the Jews, victory to Islam.” It was modelled on revolutionary Iran's motto and formally adopted after 2003.
Read the third line again. The first two name countries. The third names a people. An organization that wanted to condemn a government wrote a curse on the Jews into its flag and has flown it for twenty years. When Western marchers adopt Houthi slogans, this is the movement they are borrowing from.
The marches are not weather. They are organized, funded and scripted, and the scripts are published. The most important one was published on 8 October 2023, while the bodies at the Nova festival had not yet been counted and before a single Israeli soldier had entered Gaza.
Today, we witness a historic win for the Palestinian resistance: across land, air, and sea, our people have broken down the artificial barriers of the Zionist entity, taking with it the facade of an impenetrable settler colony and reminding each of us that total return and liberation to Palestine is near.
National liberation is near … glory to our resistance, to our martyrs, and to our steadfast people.
We must continue to resist directly through dismantling Zionism, and wielding the political power that our organizations hold on our campuses and in our communities.
The document calls for a national day of resistance on US and Canadian campuses for 12 October 2023. It describes the massacre as the resistance having “stormed the illegitimate border fence,” taken “occupation soldiers hostage,” and “gained control over illegal Israeli settlements.” It cites a Palestinian death toll “as of Sunday, Oct 8th at 12pm ET.” That timestamp matters: this was written before Israel's ground operation existed, so it cannot be a response to it. The promotional artwork distributed with it featured a paraglider, the method used to enter the Nova music festival.
Samidoun presented itself as a prisoner-solidarity charity and co-hosted campus events across North America and Europe. Israel (2021), Germany (2023), and the United States and Canada (both 15 October 2024) each independently designated it a terrorist entity. The US Treasury's finding was that it was “established by the PFLP” and operates as “a sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser” for it.
Four governments, three continents, separate investigations, same conclusion. This is what it looks like when a designated terrorist organization runs a campus front and nobody in the crowd checks.
The feeling that “everyone” has reached the same conclusion is the product being sold. Two independent datasets measure how much of that consensus is real, and neither was produced by an Israeli source.
The social-analysis firm Cyabra examined two million posts, images and videos across Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok over 7 to 9 October 2023. Of the 162,000 profiles in that conversation, it identified 40,695 as fake, one in four. Those accounts produced over 312,000 pro-Hamas posts and comments and drew more than 531 million views, all within those two days. Many posted identical text to different influencers, the signature of a coordinated network rather than a movement.
Half a billion views in forty-eight hours does not happen by accident. Someone switched it on. And a real person scrolling past it has no way to tell which quarter of the outrage was manufactured, which is the entire point of manufacturing it.
Researchers at Northeastern University collected more than 280,000 US TikTok posts carrying war-related hashtags across sampling windows from October 2023 to January 2024. Pro-Palestinian posts outnumbered pro-Israel posts by roughly 20 to 1, and drew far more views. By September 2025 the ratio was still around 17 to 1.
The researchers found the two patterns look different. Pro-Israel posts spike after a news event and then fade. Pro-Palestinian posts keep coming steadily, which is what a sustained campaign looks like. A young person on that platform is not seeing a debate with two sides. They are seeing one side, twenty times over, and it is reasonable for them to think that is what everybody thinks.
On 17 October 2023 the Hamas-run health ministry announced 471 dead in an Israeli airstrike on the al-Ahli hospital, within about an hour of the blast, before any count was possible. It circled the world that night. Within days, US, UK, French and Canadian intelligence independently concluded it was a misfired Palestinian rocket that hit the car park, not the hospital. The New York Times published its correction six days later.
The first number is still on placards. Here is why: a lie moves at the speed of outrage, and a correction moves at the speed of verification. Only one of them is built to spread.
The reply to all of the above is that words are only words. These are the cases where the words were stated as the motive, on the record, in court. Not inferred. Not attributed by opponents. Said out loud by the person holding the weapon.
A gunman shot two Israeli embassy staff leaving a young-professionals reception hosted by the American Jewish Committee, firing 21 rounds. Detained, he produced a keffiyeh, said “I did it,” and chanted “Free, free Palestine.” He had written a document the day before urging activists to go beyond rhetoric. He was indicted on terrorism and hate-crime counts, with a federal finding of substantial planning and premeditation; the Justice Department is seeking the death penalty.
Yaron Lischinsky · Sarah MilgrimA man attacked a weekly Run for Their Lives walk, held every week since October 2023 to call for the hostages' release, using a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails. Fifteen people were injured. He told police he targeted the group because he believed they were Zionists. In May 2026 he pleaded guilty to all state charges and was sentenced to life without parole plus 2,128 years.
Karen Diamond, 82On the holiest day of the Jewish year, a man drove a car into worshippers outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation and then attacked them with a knife. Two Jews were murdered. Police declared it a terrorist attack the same day. In the three weeks that followed, Greater Manchester Police recorded antisemitic hate crime tripling.
Two murdered at prayerAfter a Maccabi Tel Aviv match, groups on scooters moved through the city in hit-and-run attacks searching for Israeli fans. Mayor Femke Halsema, the Dutch prime minister and the King all condemned it as antisemitic. Some Maccabi supporters had behaved badly the night before: they pulled down flags and shouted racist abuse, and that should be said plainly. But it does not turn the rest into a football brawl. Hooligans start fights in a square. They do not drive around a capital city looking for Jews.
A city, searchedNone of this is an argument that people cannot protest a war. They can, and a great many who march are decent people who have been told something untrue by every screen they own. That is the problem worth naming: a crowd being sincere does not tell you what the chant actually means. A slogan written to promise the return of a seventh-century massacre does not become a peace slogan because the person shouting it has never looked it up.
So look it up. That is the entire ask of this page. Every claim here is a document you can open, an emblem you can photograph, an indictment you can read, or a dataset you can check, and each one is linked. Nothing on this page requires you to trust us.
