2020 Democratic Republic of the Congo attacks

A wave of attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces, a radical Islamist rebel group, and CODECO left at least 1,316 people dead in eastern Congo in 2020. The 2020 opening was a single line: a series of massacres took place in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo in late May 2020. Today's opening calls the same events "a series of attacks"; the word massacre survives 13 times in the body but not in the opening's description of what happened. A reader today learns that 1,316 people died in a series of attacks and not that those events were once called a series of massacres.
