The battle for Maroun al-Ras began on July 19 and lasted for several days, with see-saw control of the village. some areas of Hezbollah fighters, but did not secure the whole town. Significant casualties were inflicted on Hezbollah, but Israeli soldiers were ordered not to risk their lives to recover the bodies. Israeli casualties were also significant. 8 Israeli soldiers were killed in the battle. , and estimated Hezbollah losses at 13 dead. However, Israeli officers who had fought in the battle reported that 30 Hezbollah fighters were killed. Hezbollah reported 8 of its fighters were killed. Israel also claimed to have killed Abu Jaafar, a Hezbollah official, in an exchange of fire during the battle. After-battle reports claimed the IDF troops never fully secured the border area and that Maroun al-Ras was never fully taken.1
