Cevdet Kılıçlar
Cevdet Kılıçlar was a Turkish journalist killed aboard the Mavi Marmara during the 2010 Gaza flotilla raid. The 2015 opening quoted his widow that "he was prepared to become a martyr for the Palestinian cause." Today's opening describes him only as a journalist, photographer and aid worker killed in the raid, with no mention of martyrdom, though the word survives twice in the article. A reader today does not learn that, by his own widow's account, Kılıçlar saw himself as prepared to die a martyr for the Palestinian cause aboard the flotilla.

Cevdet Kılıçlar (5 May 1972 – 31 May 2010) was a Turkish journalist and photographer from Kayseri . He had been a correspondent of the daily newspaper Anadolu'da Vakit . He was an aid worker and responsible for website of The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (Turkish: İnsan Hak ve Hürriyetleri ve İnsani Yardım Vakfı ). He was married to Derya Kılıçlar and had two children, Gülhan and Ali Erdem. He was killed in the Gaza flotilla raid . According to his widow, Derya, he was prepared to become a martyr for the Palestinian cause.1
