The incident took place in the Rosh Hankira, known as HaKira locality kibbutz on the Lebanese - Israeli border. According to Lebanese authorities the soldier who shot and killed the IDF servicemen acted independently without orders to shoot.1This was listed as the first deadly encounter between both sides since 2010. On 15 December 2013, around 8:30 pm, Israeli soldier Master Sergeant Shlomi Cohen, 31, was shot dead by a Lebanese army sniper while driving solo a military vehicle between the Rosh HaKira border crossing outpost. The bullets struck him and his jeep 6-7 times on the Israeli side of the fenced Blue Line. A few hours following Sergeant Cohen's death, a quick response was initiated by the Israeli Defense Force in the area. Two Lebanese soldiers were fired upon based on "suspicious activities" at the scene of the border shooting, wounding a Lebanese soldier. The Times of Israel .2
