Mizpah Congregation is a Reform Jewish synagogue in Chattanooga .1The congregation was founded in 1866 by German Jewish businessmen, many of whom were veterans of the Civil War. The congregation dedicated its first synagogue building,the Walnut Street Temple, in 1882. In 1904 a new temple was built on the corner of Oak and Lindsay Streets. In 1928 Adolph Ochs , publisher of the Chattanooga Times and The New York Times constructed a new synagogue building at 922 McCallie Avenue, in memory of his parents, Julius and Bertha Ochs. The Georgian colonial building was designated as a Tennessee Historical Preservation Site in 1979.2
