Shlomtzion ( Hebrew : שלומציון) was an Israeli political party, founded by Ariel Sharon in 1977 , prior to the general elections for the 9th Knesset in which the party gained 2 seats (Sharon and Itzhak Itzhaky [1] ). Prior to the elections, Sharon proposed a joint list of Labor and his own list party, Shlomtzion. When Labor rejected Shlomtzion, Sharon tried to form a joint list with the centrist Shinui party, and met denial there as well. After two rejections, Sharon eventually formed a political alliance with Menachem Begin 's Likud party. In combination with Begin, the center-right won the Israeli elections of 1977 for the first time ever and Sharon became Minister of Agriculture. Following the 1977 elections, Slomtzion formally merged into Likud.1
