Emad Akel also spelled Imad Akel (Arabic: عماد عقل, 1971–1993) was a commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. He was killed by the Israel Defense Forces.

Emad Akel was a commander of Hamas's Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, killed by Israeli forces in 1993. Through October 6, 2023 the opening said Hamas released a two-hour biopic celebrating his life and martyrdom. Today the word martyr survives elsewhere in the article, but the opening is two sentences naming his role and his death. A reader arriving now learns he commanded the Qassam Brigades and was killed by the IDF, not that Hamas produced a film honoring him as a martyr, written by Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar.
