Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni ( 1907 - 1948 ) was a Palestinian nationalist and fighter who commanded the Arab Liberation Army in the war of 1948. He was born to the influential al-Husayni family in Jerusalem , son of Musa Qassem al-Husseini ; his relatives included Amin al-Husayni . He graduated in chemistry at the American University in Cairo , and organized the Congress of Educated Muslims . In 1931 , he founded the Al-Jihad al-Muqaddas armed group, and led the Palestinians in the Great Arab Revolt of 1936-9; he was exiled in 1938 , but secretly returned to lead a Palestinian army in January 1948, and was killed in battle at al-Qastal , a village east of Jerusalem , on April 8, 1948. Faisal Husseini was his son.1
