Arava Power Company is an Israeli solar energy company that is part of Kibbutz Ketura near Eilat . In November 2008, the Company announced that it had entered an agreement for solar fields that will generate at least 500 MW, and eventually one gigawatt (GW), which could have a deep impact on Israel's energy market. Its president is Yosef I. Abramowitz said the Company wants to install 62,500 solar panels by 2009, and that APC has enough investors to build solar power stations that would supply up to 500 megawatts, or nearly 5% of Israel's daily daytime energy use. APC's project employs photovoltaics , which use a fraction of the expensive silicon needed to convert photons into energy that is used by standard solar panels. Funding for the project is conditional upon the government passing a 20-year feed-in tariff for a plant of that size.
