David Appel is a successful rightwing businessman in Israel . He is frequenty accused of using his wealth to affect Israeli politics. Appel claims in return that he is persecuted by the Israeli establishment because of his views (the establishment is considered leftwing by many). In 2004 he was charged of bribing Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon , in what became known as the Greek Island Affair . He was also charged with five other bribe offenses.
