Encyclopaedia Islamica

The Encyclopaedia Islamica is a new encyclopaedia on Islamic/Sh'i and Iranian studies. This is a projected 16-volume publication and a translation of a carefully selected set of articles from the new Persian "The Great Islamic Encyclopaedia" ( ) (Dāʾirat al-Maʿārif-i Buzurg-i Islāmī) a projected 35 volume publication. As of 2009 two volume of this set has been published by Brill Publishers .

Brill's Encyclopedia Islamica , which is edited by Farhad Daftary and Wilferd Madelung , is currently at its fifth volume. It was begun in 2008 and is expected to be completed in 2023. It is intended for advanced graduate students and scholars who require meticulous documentation.
