Ernest in the Army is a 1998 comedy film directed by John R.1 Cherry III and starring Jim Varney . It is the tenth and final film to feature the character of Ernest P.2 It was re-released by Mill Creek Entertainment on DVD October 31, 2006 as part of the DVD box sets Maximum Ernest and Essential Ernest Collection with Your World As I See It (1994) and Knowhutimean?3 In the film, Ernest joins the Army because he wants to drive large vehicles, but ends up being sent into combat.4 Worrell is now in the military as a soldier. The film received a PG rating from the MPAA for "mild innuendo and comic action." It was shot in Cape Town , South Africa's Koeberg Nature Reserve.5
