Designed in Moorish Revival and Romanesque Revival styles, the synagogue was completed in 1903 and operated as a synagogue until c. 1970 s. The building was in danger of collapse in 2012 when fundraising was commenced to complete structural repairs and the building has since been handed to municipal authorities for restoration and renovation as a cultural center .
