Hulhumalé, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives The Hulhumalé Grand Mosque , formally known as the Masjid al Sheikh Qasim bin Al-Thani ( Dhivehi : ހުޅުމާލެ ގުއްބު މިސްކިތް ; Arabic : مسجد الشيخ قاسم بن آلثاني ), is a Sunni Islam mosque , located in Hulhumalé , on the North Malé Atoll , in the Maldives . The mosque, that accommodates more than 1,500 worshippers, was opened in the 1990s in the framework of the Hulhumalé land reclamation and development project. A second mosque in Hulhumalé, Masjid Muhammad, was opened by the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih , on 14 October 2021. Commenced in 2019, the new mosque accommodates up to 760 worshippers. The mosque is named after the Sheikh Qasim bin Al-Thani . It is located in the north-east of Hulhumalé , close to the Hospital. Hulhumalé has several other smaller mosques, including the Vaguthee Mosque (on Asaurmaa Higun), Masjidhul Amaanee (Midhili Magu) and the Masjid Zaid bin Saabith (on Saimaa Hingun).
