He later played the lead role in Paradise Now , a film about two would-be suicide bombers in the West Bank. In 2018, he won the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival for his role in Tel Aviv on Fire . Nashef — a reedy, chain-smoking, 27-year-old Arab Israeli — plays the role of the tormented Said, one of two young Palestinian men sent to blow themselves up on a Tel Aviv bus. al-'Eyissa, Osama (1 February 2006). "مغمورون عرب إلى الأوسكار" [Unknown Arab to the Oscars] (in Arabic). A sympathetic portrayal of a suicide bomber is possibly the most contentious role an actor could take on. He frequently travels to the U.S. Kais is part German from his mother's side and speaks fluent German as well. His father was Palestinian. Education: Acting study at " Beit Zvi " the School for Stage Arts and the Yoram Levinishtain Acting School in Tel Aviv. He was working as a barman when he won the role of Said in Paradise Now, with the role of a suicide bomber and all the reasons behind the aches of the Palestinian people. Where they live - in the specific case of the Palestinians - they're all surrounded and caged in cities which they cannot leave. And it is all because of the Israelis and what they did to them."
