Nation of Islam ( NOI ) is a religious and political organization founded in the United States by Wallace Fard Muhammad in 1930 with a declared aim of "resurrecting" the spiritual, mental, social and economic condition of the black man and woman of America and the world. Louis Farrakhan is currently the leader of The Nation of Islam and lives in Chicago . The Nation of Islam's headquarters in Chicago known as The National Center , houses Mosque No. 2 now known as Mosque Maryam in dedication to Mary, the mother of Jesus . Jesus, or Isa in Arabic, is respected and honored by the Islamic faith as a prophet and holy man. The Final Call is the official newspaper of the NOI in the United States .1
