The opening as it read in 2010
Paamonim is a non-profit organization operating in Israel aimed at assisting families in financial difficulty regain their economic independence. Founded in 1997, it assisted 2,400 families enrolled in its Economic Recovery Plan program in 2008. Rather than providing temporary charitible relief, its goal is to break the cycle of poverty by focusing on long-term comprehensive solutions to debt and poverty. It does this primarily through trained volunteer counselors who work with the families in finding better ways to manage household finances. In addition, financial assistance or loans may be offered when these can be useful in achieving financial stability for the family. Paamonim operates over 50 branches throughout Israel, and has about 950 volunteer counselors. It also provides seminars, workshops, and lectures to the general public about the management of household finances.1
