Palmachim is a kibbutz in Israel about ten kilometers south of Tel Aviv by the shore of the Mediterranean Sea at 31°54 ' northern latitude and 34°42 ' eastern longitude. Its nearest town is Rishon LeZion . Palmachim was created in the year after the establishment of the State of Israel by former members of the underground organization Palmach ; hence its name. The kibbutz produces agricultural goods and spancrete , high tensile strength concrete products. Close by are the ruins of the ancient city of Yavne . Near Palmachim there is a rocket testing ground for the Israeli Defense Forces and the Israeli Space Agency . The Shavit rockets with Ofeq satellites were launched from this site.1
