The award is granted since 1956, initially to the printed media, and from 1981, also to journalists from the electronic media. In addition, from 2002, it is being handed along with "The Dush Award for caricature".1It is considered the most prominent award for Israeli Journalistsm second only to the Israel Prize for Journalism.2According to the Sokokov Award's statute, the prize shall be granted annually, and in close proximity to, as much as possible, to Nahum Sokolow's birthday (ה' בשבט, Hebrew calendar ), or to his passing day (י"ב באייר, Hebrew calendar), and in a public ceremony, and according to the recommendations of its committee of Judges.3
