This biographical entry is based primarily on the information provided on his website. His original name is not publicly known, and his story is uncorroborated. He takes an assumed name to allegedly protect himself and his family. Many militant muslims still hold apostasy as a sin worthy of death, and he is alleged to have received numerous death threats stemming from both his support of Israel and his apostasy from Islam. According to his website, Mr. Shoebat was born in Beit Sahour, Bethlehem . He moved to Jericho and lived through the Six Day War of June, 1967. Prior to 1993 he engaged in various activities against Israel and its people, including some violent activity which led to his arrest and imprisonment in Jerusalem 's Russian Compound . After his release, he moved to the USA. In 1993, in an attempt to convert his wife to Islam, he studied the Tanach in order to prove it false. After six months of intense study, he came to the conclusion that his prior beliefs were false. He, himself, then converted to Christianity and became a staunch advocate of Zionism. Shoebat previously worked as a software engineer in the USA and now works full time lecturing and participating in discussions as a public advocate of Israel . Shoebat remains married to his wife.¹
