It got National Award in 1982 and 2008 for excellence in child welfare from the Ministry of Women and Child Development awarded by Giani Zail Singh the then President of India, and UPA United Progressive Alliance Chair person Sonia Gandhi respectively. MMO is set in the valley of the Western Ghats , at Mukkam about 35 km north east of Calicut city, Kerala , India .
