Darul Huda Islamic University is a private Islamic University based at Chemmad in the district of Malappuram , Kerala , India . The university is a member of the League of Islamic Universities and the Federation of the universities of the islamic world . Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi is the Vice-Chancellor and Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal serves as its Chancellor. Darul Huda was established in 1986 as an Islamic college, with the name Darul Huda Islamic Academy. Currently, it has affiliated institutes all across Kerala and other states in India including Maharashtra , Andhra Pradesh , West Bengal , Karnataka and Assam . Besides the Malayalam speaking students of Kerala, it also serves Urdu speaking students of north India. According to the Peninsula Qatar , the university has produced hundreds of proficient Islamic scholars aims at empowering the community with scholars versed in Islamic knowledge and modern sciences. Darul Huda Islamic University is an Islamic institution situated on the banks of the River Kadalundy, located at Chemmad , Tirurangadi , Kerala, India spreading over 11 acres (45,000 m ) of land (44,500 m²) with calm and serene surroundings. The Foundation stone was laid on 25 December 1983, and started functioning on 26 June 1986. There 19 co-institutions of Academy spread all over South India. The Academy aims at bringing up a younger generation of Islamic scholars well-equipped with modern tools of knowledge. It has a unique system of education where a student admitted to the institute after five years of primary education has to go for 12 years of education (2+4+4+2 Preliminary, Special Secondary, Degree, Masters). After 12 years of education the student will come out as Master of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language with good command of English and Urdu languages. The Academy differs from other traditional Islamic institutions in Kerala as other institution may offer only religious studies while the Academy offers a unique curriculum combining religious and secular studies and giving emphasis on different languages. As a result the scholars studied in the Academy could get wide acceptance in Keralite Muslim Community and more and more institutions started to change their curriculmn and accept the Darul Huda Model. The Student Associaltion (ASAs) of the Academy publishes a Malayalam Monthly Magazine named "Thelitcham" (means "clarity"). Scholars coming out from this Academy is known as "Hudawi" as a title.
