Shmuel Kamenetsky (born 1925) is an Orthodox rabbi and served as co- rosh yeshiva of the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia for the past fifty years with Elya Svei until the latter's death in March, 2009. He continues to lead that yeshiva today (2010), and is one of the best-known living gedolim ( Haredi Litvish Jewish religious leader) outside the land of Israel . He is the best-known son of the late Yaakov Kamenetsky . He is a 'Gentleman among Gentlemen' whose vast Torah knowledge has earned him considerable renown. He is also known for his warm and friendly attitude towards people, gentle demeanor, and unusual modesty.1 Kamenetsky is a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudath Israel of America .2 Kamenetsky serves on the rabbinical board of many organizations including Chinuch Atzmai (Torah Schools for Israel), Torah Umesorah , the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation and the Association for Jewish Outreach Professionals (AJOP). Kamenetsky's sons include Sholom Kamenetsky , an instructor of Talmud in the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia, Avrohom Kamenetsky , an instructor of Talmud at Yeshivas Bais Yisroel in Jerusalem , Dov Kamenetsky, a well-known philanthropist and real estate magnate in Toronto, Zev Kamenetsky of Lakewood, New Jersey , an instructor of Talmud at Belmar yeshiva, and Dovid Kamenetsky , a Talmud instructor at Yeshivat Darche Noam/Shapell's in Jerusalem. Kamenetzky's son-in-law is Tzvi Berkowitz , a noted lecturer at Ner Israel Rabbinical College . Kamenetzky is a primary student of Aharon Kotler , from whom he received smicha , or Rabbinic ordination. Rabbi Kamenetzky, prior to studying in Beth Medrash Govoha , studied in Ner Israel Rabbinical College , under the tutelage of his father's cousin, Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman .3
