Tablet Magazine is an American Jewish general interest online magazine sponsored by Nextbook . Launched in June 2009, it is the successor magazine to Nextbook (2003-2009). The editor is Alana Newhouse , the former culture editor of The Forward . Notable contributors include cultural critic Adam Kirsch , novelists Etgar Keret and Shalom Auslander , and food writer Joan Nathan . In addition to running several new pieces each weekday, Tablet also has its own blog, The Scroll , updated each hour. In December 2009, Nextbook, INC, Tablet's parent company, announced a strategic partnership with JDub . According to the JTA: "Under the partnership, the two organizations will remain separate and will still produce their own records and books and cultural materials, but JDub will essentially become Nextbook’s in-house marketing and PR department." In 2010, Tablet won the National Magazine Award for its podcast, Vox Tablet.1
