The Investigative Project on Terrorism
A research group founded by Steven Emerson in 1995, following his 1994 documentary "Terrorists Among Us: Jihad in America," which aired before the September 11 attacks. Through 2020 the opening named that founding documentary. Today the opening drops the documentary's name and states instead that the organization "has been called a prominent part of the 'Islamophobia network'... and a 'leading source of anti-Muslim racism,'" though jihad survives five times in the body. A reader arriving now learns how critics characterize the organization and not the documentary that led to its founding.
