Sūrat al-Balad ( al-balad , "The City, This Country") is the 90th sura of the Qur'an with 20 ayat . The surah that opens with the emphatic oath of the Divine One swearing by the City. The addressed issues in this surah are said to be compressed beautifully into precise compact words. The surah gives exclusive permission to Muhammad to fight in the sacred city of Mecca due to excessive tyranny against him by the disbelievers. Then the Surah highlights the submissive trait of human nature that Man, though created in misery, yet boasts of his riches.
