Islamic Relief

Islamic Relief ( IR ) is an international relief and development charity that aims to alleviate the suffering of the world’s poorest people. It is an independent Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in the UK in 1984 by Hany El Banna . Its stated mission is: to alleviate suffering, hunger, illiteracy and diseases worldwide regardless of color, race or creed, and to provide aid in a compassionate and dignified manner. Islamic Relief aims to provide rapid relief in the event of human and natural disasters and to establish local development projects to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and disease. IR is a member of the UN 's Economic and Social Council and it is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. IR is also a member of Bond (British Overseas NGOs for Development) and is part of the global Make Poverty History coalition which is campaigning to end extreme poverty.
