Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and tomb , on the Mahim Bay (near the neighborhood of Worli ), built by a wealthy muslim merchant and saint named Haji Ali who renounced all his wordly possessions before making a pilgramage to Mecca . It sits right on the water, 500 yards off the coast. It is connected with the Hindu Mahalaxmi Temple via a small path that goes into the sea. The path is only accessible during low tide. Some belive that Haji Ali drowned where the dargah stands today. Although, legend has it that Haji Ali died on his way to Mecca and his body, in its casket , floated back to Mumbai (which was then called Bombay ).1
