Well into his nineties, he is nevertheless lucid and active and remains the paramount leader of Israel's mitnagdim (non- Hasidic Haredi Ashkenazi Jews ) who regard him as the posek ha-dor ( Hebrew : "Decisor [of] the Generation"), the leading authority on Torah law, i.e. halakha , at the present time. He is also a grandson of a famous kabbalist Rabbi Shalom Ben Hayim Haikel Eliashiv zt"l ( Leshem ) (1841-1925) from Shavel, Lithuania.1
